Ted Baker, Kuwait
This beautiful Ted Baker store in Kuwait at the 360 Mall was themed around the concept of 'Ted the Adventurer' using classical ship elements in a luxurious way. Mainly with reference to sails, as well as using the roping/knotting of a seafarer, in the more glamorous material of pearls. When you think of Arabia today, you think of oil, and unimaginable wealth. But less than a century ago, oil had yet to be discovered. The region was poor and one of its main sources of income was pearl fishing. Rothschild & Bickers and the in-house design team latched onto this history to create large jewel like clusters of opaque pendants using pearlescent colour finishes and frosted glass.
A shiny lustre effect is made by rolling the molten glass in powdered metallic oxides. By turning down the glory hole and creating oxygen- free conditions, it melts and causes the metal to deposit in a thin film with a distinctive shiny surface.
