Spinning out glass - making a vintage light
When we are making larger more open designs such as our Vintage Light, the raw heat of the glory hole and the centrifugal action of the iron spinning blend to form the glass shade. The video below shows the dramatic final stage of this process. You can see the glass being heated until molten red hot before being spun out and expanded to the desired size.
The molten glass is then quickly dipped onto a fin mould to make the undulating rim. Once the piece is cooled and cold worked, it then moves on to have the lavish fringe carefully applied by hand.
