Forming on a lathe - making a Spindle Pendant
The Spindle pendants are one of our most popular designs, a modern twist on Victorian decorative lighting. As the name suggests the design is based on turned wooden spindles, a feature used in nearly all period properties of that era from stair banisters to table legs.
We have worked with a specialised manufacturer of borosilicate glass for the last twenty years creating these beautiful shapes. The process, similar to wooden spindles, is a type of lathe formed turning but uses flame torches to expand and contract the material into shape. This clear tubular glass has a much faster cooling rate than furnace blown glass, allowing for more precision to produce delicate details.
