Anthracite Martini Lounge, London
The challenge for Archer Humphryes Architects was to make the Anthracite Martini Lounge the most chic bar in London. To create the concept it required a timeless response that would blend and feel at home in the Great Northern Hotel. Evoking the style and glamour of the first railway age.- emphasising the historic character of the building while at the same time providing an elegant, contemporary design was the result. Rothschild & Bickers were commissioned to create clear optical pendants for above the bar, made with a mixture of hand blown furnace and borosilicate glass, with polished brass fixtures and decorative details. This needed to be classic yet decadent in their finish.
Travelling to Belle Époque interiors with European furniture, dark green velvet drapes, exotic marbles, sea foam velvet, chocolate or ivory leather, polished timber, brass, mirrors and lighting was the essence of the day. Throughout - combining craftsmanship of furniture design and boiserie, it was important that the furniture Archer Humphryes designed was expressed as integral with the space.
