How to design open plan Kitchen/living

An open kitchen-dining-living space is amazingly adaptable for the way we live today, a perfect blend that if done correctly should be the heart of the house, offering the family an area to congregate and keep connected. But coming up with suitable open-plan kitchen ideas isn't always easy. There is a level of design skill needed to seamlessly integrate these activities, paying attention to lighting, sound control and a cohesive decorating plan to bring it all together. 

O'Meara Jones are a Sydney based Interior design practice who just recently completed a project at Lindfield House, a wonderful masterclass in open plan kitchen design. The layout has been tailored to the client's requirements and features a large central island, strategically positioned to steer people away from the hotspots and out towards the living area. Pick-n-Mix Large pendants are used to highlight the zone, hung in a horizontal line over the work surface. 

The colour palette is uniform throughout giving a relaxing feel and flow to the space, accent colours are used to define individual zones and pull the scheme together. Storage is a key consideration as this is a high traffic space and needs to be kept clean. The cabinets are painted in a neutral tone and give a streamlined effect, hiding away the clutter, leaving a clean stress free living space.
