The Power of Neutrals – Goldstone Interiors

When the owners of a 1930s home extended their property, they enlisted interior designer Sarah Goldstone to seamlessly blend cherished vintage pieces with modern touches. The result? A home that feels both grounded and current—showcasing how a well-chosen neutral palette continues to be one of 2025’s most powerful design tools.

In 2025, the rise of restorative design and intentional living is pushing neutrals to the forefront. More than ever, homeowners are seeking calm, comforting spaces that feel personal without being overstimulating. In this project, the neutral scheme sets a serene tone from the moment you enter, with a glass internal door leading the eye through to a light-filled, open-plan kitchen and living area.

Originally leaning toward bold colour, the owners instead embraced a softer, more refined palette—perfect for spotlighting their furniture and heirlooms. This approach aligns with the 2025 trend of emotional minimalism, where subtle backdrops support meaningful, expressive pieces.

To keep the space dynamic, Sarah focused on layered neutrals and defined zones that feel intimate despite the home's generous footprint. Petrol blue-green cabinets introduce depth, while warm terracotta walls add earthy richness—both colours tying into 2025’s growing love for biophilic tones that connect interior spaces to nature.

Lighting plays a key role in storytelling and ambiance, a hallmark of this year’s experiential design trend. Over the island, hand-blown Pop Lights nod to the owner’s past as a glass blower—infusing the kitchen with personality and craft. In the dining area, diamond-cut sconces cast textured shadows, blending utility with art and reflecting the ongoing demand for sculptural, sensory lighting.

This home is a perfect example of how 2025’s key interior trends—neutral grounding, personal storytelling, tactile lighting, and meaningful objects—can combine to form a space that’s both calming and full of character. Neutrals aren’t just a background; they’re the foundation for thoughtful, elevated design that lasts.
