Why use a lighting consultant?

We believe at Rothschild & Bickers that every project should begin with a lighting consultant. So many builds are completed without any thought to how the space will feel and be utilised. Clients are often left shoehorning a product into their design last minute and being disappointed by the outcome. Light is an integral element in defining the mood of a room and effects the behaviour of it's inhabitants. The selection needs careful consideration and can determine all the aspects of a good interior plan. A professional lighting designer knows the intricacies of layering ambient, task and decorative products to skilfully define a space, their knowledge is invaluable.

Lighting by Plum is an independent lighting design consultancy based in Buckinghamshire who specialises in residential projects throughout the UK. The company was founded in 2014 by Toria and Mike Thorpe, who between them have over 30 years experience in the industry and a highly creative approach to design. Their expertise and technical skills ensure every project is not only kept on track but also compliant with the latest industry standards and regulations.

Fabric fringed Opulent Optic Large Glass Pendant Lights by Rothschild & Bickers hanging over a dining table

Lighting by Plum & AndersonOrr Architects, Country House in Berkshire - Opulent Optic Large

Rothschild & Bickers were recently selected by Lighting by Plum  and Nia Morris Studio to furnish an outstanding 'Georgian-inspired' country house in Berkshire designed by AndersonOrr architects. Maximising the site's verdant natural light and extensive views was key to this property, the unrivalled comfort and style was created in response to and assimilating within its unique context, situated on the banks of the Thames.

An eclectic cluster of Pop Lights cascades down the spiral stairs as you enter the building and picks up on tones throughout, from the metal finish of the balustrade to the surrounding artwork. Every detail has been carefully selected and subtly moulded to the interior space, taking the residents on a journey from one room to the next. Lighting by Plum have clearly aimed to establish a connection between the user and their home, lighting rooms sympathetically and creatively according to their use and style.

The classical symmetry of this building is inferred throughout the design and in the choice of pendants. There is a beautiful balance of traditional and modern elements throughout. The formal dining room is given a contemporary twist with fabric trimmed Opulent Optic Lights over the table, a perfect match to the floral wallpaper and teal velvet chairs. Clear minimal Empire Lights are paired with Denim Pick-n-Mix Large Balls in the kitchen, where the coloured glass delicately accents the painted cabinetry and reflects the river beyond. There is a seamless quality to each space, a sense of tranquility and relaxation.
