Traditional with a twist - Motel One Graz
You may not have heard of Graz but it is the second largest city in Austria and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. The city is an amazing mix of historical buildings and new contemporary architecture, which inspired the design team at Motel One for their most recent venture. Motel One Graz is located in a magnificent old department store called the Dorotheum on Jakominiplatz. The building had been renovated in the 1970's with a concrete facade and was in need of much love and attention. The finished design is a masterclass in how to balance traditional style with a modern feel, almost unrecognisable after the transformation.
Standard Pop Pendants by Rothschild & Bickers are suspended in a symmetrical row across the hotel bar and reception area, highlighting the antique brass and dark muted colour scheme. The glass is finished in optic and diamond pattern which sparkle against the dark racing green and reflect back against the mirrored tile arches. We absolutely love the use of the herringbone wood which harks back to a bygone era and brings a sense of warmth to the space. We will definitely be booking a next trip to Graz in the new year!
