Guide - Install height
What height should I hang my lights?
There are no strict rules, but here are some helpful guidelines. It’s always best to hold pendants in place before cutting the flex to make sure the length feels right — starting slightly longer is better than cutting too short.
Pro tip: Hang balloons to visualise pendant placement when planning your lighting layout.
Kitchen islands and tables
Hang the lowest pendant at 1500 mm from the floor for tables, or 1800 mm for islands to maintain clear sight lines.
Space pendants 250–300 mm apart when in a line.
Do not hang directly over hobs, and maintain a 600 mm clearance from sinks or water sources for IP compliance.
Wall Lights
Mount wall lights/sconces around eye level, (approx 1500-1800mm from the floor).
In hallways, space sconces 2500–3000 mm apart and consider door swing placement.
Bedside
Position sconces or pendants 750–900 mm above the mattress (shoulder height when seated) and within 300 mm of the bed.
Consider a dimmer switch for adjustable lighting by the bed.
Bathroom/Powder Room
Mount wall sconces around eye level, (approx 1500-1800mm from the floor).
